Press Release
Sandia Peak Ski Area Announces Historic Opening Date

Albuquerque, NM - Sandia Peak Ski Area is set to make history Sunday November 10th, as it will open 48 days before the projected opening date. Thanks to 36 inches of snowfall, Sandia will be able to open and operate for all of New Mexico and surrounding areas.

Sandia Peak Ski Area will open 48 days ahead of schedule. Sandia will only have advanced terrain open on opening day with lift 3 for access. This early opening highlights Sandia’s commitment to providing the freedom to ski, honoring the dedication to our community by embracing the season’s start ahead of schedule. Limited facilities will be available for early-season visitors. Opening weekend will exclude beginner trails, cafeteria services, rentals, and lessons.

“We’re thrilled to open Sandia Peak Ski Area 48 days ahead of schedule—something that’s a first in our history,” said General Manager Scott Leigh. “We’re committed to providing as much access as possible, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome guests to the mountain this season.”

Following the weekend, Sandia will assess conditions with plans to move toward full 7-day-a-week operations. By bringing back Lift 4 and making beginning terrain more accessible, Sandia continues to strive to enhance Albuquerque’s ski scene.
